In a product pre-mortem, teams brainstorm ways a project could fail and work backwards to prevent those futures. However, performance is better judged by how well a team works together.

Conduct relationship pre-mortems

  1. Set goals for relationships
  2. Ask “what ways can this relationship fail?”
  3. Work back to formulate preventative measures
  4. Execute these measures and check to make sure the team is functioning well

Reasons for pre-mortems

  • Eliminate expectations for a perfect relationship
  • Start with vulnerability
  • Identify behaviors to avoid
  • Build intentional relationships
